Shiga Prefecture is located on the east side of Kyoto Prefecture, and it is 10 minutes by train from Kyoto Station to Otsu, the capital of Shiga. Shiga developed as a supplier and a relay point for supplies and human resources to Nara, Kyoto and Osaka. The Lake Biwa (above picture), occupy one sixth of the prefecture area.
