Fujishiro jinja Shrine
On the Kiji section of the Kumano Pilgrimage Route, also known as the Kumano Kodo, stands a torii gate which serves as the entrance to Kumano itself. The main hall of Fujishiro Jinja Shrine, formerly Fujishiro Oji, is worshipped by followers of Shinto, while the gongen hall is said to contain Buddha himself in the form of a Shinto deity. The shrine is the seventh of the Shinto and Buddhist stops along the Wakayama Road of Purification. On October 7, 2015, the shrine's grounds and neighboring former Suzuki residence were included alongside the shrine as nationally recognized historical sites.
