Kyoto International Manga Museum

【Introduction, descriptions, and contents of activities】
The Kyoto International Manga Museum is a new cultural facility with the dual functions of library and museum. A staggering 300000 manga documents chart the development of the genre from the simple caricatures and ukiyoe of the Edo Period to the more elaborate magazines of the Meiji, Taisho and Showa Eras and finally to contemporary popular Japanese manga and works from abroad. The "Wall of Manga" comprises 50000 comics published since the 1970s, and visitors are welcome to read them on the spot. A further 250000 manga documents are archived for conservation in an underground repository. Upon registration, visitors may access catalogued materials in Research Reference Room.
