An hour of resplendent dancing by maiko and geisha
The Gion-odori dance takes place yearly from November 1 to 10. It is the only public performance by one of the five kagai (geisha quarters) to be held in the autumn. The public performance is held at the Gion Kaikan Hall and features all the geisha and maiko apprentice geisha from the Gion Higashi kagai and is praised in Japan and elsewhere as a vital part of Kyoto’s autumn calendar of events.
