Incense Making Experience
Old Sakai Harbor flourished as an international trading city from the Kamakura period (1185-1333). In addition to various commodities, precious aromatic woods and medicinal herbs were traded here and were introduced to the population through the cultured people of the time. The culture of incense continues to evolve as a local industry in Sakai, adding color to our daily lives. Come and find your own personal fragrance. [Itinerary] 1. Introduction to Sakai and the history of incense, 2. Introduction to the incense guessing game Kumiko. 3. Making scented sachets: Select your preferred incense from among flowery, fruity, and other types, and make a scented sachet. 4. Making inko (stamped incense) with the same ingredients used for incense. *You will make several types of small bits of incense in the shapes of cherry or plum blossoms, autumn leaves, hearts, etc.
