Kumano Kodo Picture Scroll Procession(Kumano Kodo Emaki Gyoretsu)

“Kumano Kodo Picture Scroll Procession” reenacts 'Ari-no Kumano-mode'. Participants parade about 2 km down the Kumano Kodo in Heian period costumes as Cloistered Emperor, Saigyo Hoshi (Buddhist priest Saigyo), guards, and women serving in the inner palace.

Ari-no Kumano-mode : Pilgrimages to the Kumano Sanzan in particular became popular and many people visited them; the spectacle of their advancing on a narrow mountain trail in a row was called 'Ari-no Kumano-mode' (Ants' pilgrimages to the Kumano Sanzan).
