Experience the Japanese tradition of Ibushigawara (traditional roof tiles) in the factory - Koyo Seiga

【Name of facility】
Koyo Seiga

【Introduction, descriptions, and contents of activities】
Ibushigawara is one of the traditional roof tiles of Japan, used for the roofs of Himeji Castle, a designated World Heritage Site. In a signature manufacturing technique, tiles are fumigated in the final process stage so that a tough layer of protective carbon forms on the surface to prevent penetration and deterioration by rain, snow, or frost. Wooden structures roofed with these tiles have remained sound for 100 or even 200 years. At Koyo Seiga, visitors can experience tile making or clay work under the instruction of experienced and dedicated craftsmen.
