Site of Fukui Castle
Fukui Castle was founded in 1606 by Yuki Hideyasu, the first lord of Fukui Domain and the second son of the great samurai leader Tokugawa Ieyasu. The castle town prospered over the following centuries while the Echizen Matsudaira clan governed the domain.
