The old school buildings of the former Toyosato Elementary School were designed by the architect William Merrell Vories. At the time, the school was dubbed the Chalk Education Palace and the Best Elementary School in the East, and later in 2013, the buildings were recognized as national tangible cultural property. The school is currently being used as a multi-purpose facility that includes a town library and child support center, and visitors are free to walk around the old buildings.
