Ogoto Onsen
The Ogoto Onsen hot spring village was founded by Saicho, a famous priest associated with the nearby Mt. Hiei. The name “Ogoto” derives from the koto instrument, the sound of which is said to have drifted over from the residence of Imao no Sukune, an aristocrat from the Heian period. The “O” from Imao is thought to have been put together with “koto” to form the name “Ogoto.”
