The waters of Misasa Onsen are rich in radon, and the baths themselves are one of the world’s most well-known radium-based hot springs. Including footbaths and drinking fountains, there are a total of eight public baths in the area, but the outdoor Kawara Onsen near the Misasa River is perhaps the most famous. Bathers might feel a little shy as there are no fences, but the sense of openness is second to none.
