Railways beyond the ocean~ the miracle of railway that connects to the world
1 Feb 2022
There is one ticket here. The Europe and Asia international connecting train, which went into operation about 100 years ago, allowed its passengers to travel from Tokyo to Berlin with this single ticket. With the launch of the railway ferry connecting Vladivostok, the departure and arrival point of the Trans-Siberian Railway, and Tsuruga, the railway crossed the sea and connected to Europe. Why did international trains arrive and depart at Tsuruga Station? It is closely related to the history of the railways of the Meiji era in Nagahama City, Tsuruga City and Minami Echizen Town. The story begins when the Sea of Japan and Lake Biwa were first connected by the tunnel.
