Nyonin-Koya which is still breathing together with women, is a sanctuary for healing that continues to protect us through the ages

Until modern times, Koyasan (Mt. Koya) was designated as a "nyonin kekkai" (not open to women), and women could not worship on the premises. However, even in such an era, there were temples called "Nyonin Koya" which were listening to the voices of women who were praying for the souls of their deceased relatives and for the peace of tomorrow.
The roof of the temple draws a graceful curve, the Buddha statue with a gentle face quietly listens to visitor’s prayers, the surrounding trees that reflect the changes of the four seasons, and the entirety of the harmonized space is beautifully and precisely drawn and expressed in the picture "Meisho Zue". The "Nyonin-Koya" depicted in the picture is timeless, and still exists now together with women as it continues to heal the women visiting the temple.
