Special Program of the Head Temple of the Takada School, Senjuji Temple: Experiencing the Beauty of the National Treasure Senjuji Temple
- A monk gives a guided tour of the national treasure Mieido and Nyoraido halls, as well as the paintings on the ceiling of the inner sanctuary, which are only accessible to special visitors.- We will perform a special Buddhist chant (sutra reading) at the reception hall.- Production of rubbings and tea service - Viewing books and other treasures belonging to Shinran Shoin, the founder of the temple, in the Treasure Hall/ - Senjuji Temple is the head temple of the Shinshu Takada School, which has over 600 temples across the country.The temple faithfully carries on the teachings of Shinran Shonin, the founder of the sect, and protects his relics in a mausoleum on the temple grounds.In addition to the Nyoraido and Mieido halls, the first buildings in Mie Prefecture to be designated national treasures, the temple also houses many national treasures of Buddhism and important cultural properties designated by the government. Throughout most of the summer, visitors can appreciate more than 100 pots with 35 kinds of lotus flowers, which are believed to bloom in the Pure Land, within the temple grounds.- The Treasure House, which was renovated and reopened in May 2023, contains many treasures inherited by Senjuji Temple, including books in the handwriting of Shinran Shonin, the founder of the temple.
