Date (pronounced "DAH-tay") Masayori founded this sub-temple of Tofuku-ji Temple during the Kamakura Period (1185-1333). He was the ancestor of his much more famous descendant, Date Masamune, a samurai leader of the far north region of Oshu. The temple is affiliated with the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism.
