Kizetsu Gorge

Kizetsu Gorge

The upper reaches of the Aizu River run through the Kizetsu Gorge in the city of Tanabe. There are sights to take in as the seasons pass, with fresh verdure and cherry blossoms in spring, the cool waters of Fudo Falls in summer, and the colorful leaves in autumn. Bizarre stones great and small in unique shapes can be found scattered throughout the area. The most spectacular of them is the cliff face high above the Fudo Falls, where you can see three giant Buddhist statues carved into a single formation of the rock.
