Historical Site: Tsubakidomari Awa Navy Base

Historical Site: Tsubakidomari Awa Navy Base

Tsubakidomaricho was once the base of the Awa Navy commanded by the Mori clan in the 16th and 17th centuries. A narrow road that a car can barely fit on winds along for two kilometers from west to east, and along it you can see signs of how the sailors operated in wartime long ago. On either side of the narrow road are over 300 homes. Many have uniquely decorated guardrails on the roadside to give each a particular charm. After strolling past the houses you will arrive at a jetty on the cape named Hikirisaki. The remains of a flint quarry are here, and Karimata Lighthouse stands at the end of the cape. Take in the panoramic view of the majestic sea; it will refresh your body and soul.
The site is also famous for its appearance in a movie.
