OSAKA PREF.SAYAMAIKE MUSEUM

Sayamaike is the oldest pond for irrigation in our country,made in the 7 th century with an earth fill-typu dam.Several well-known persons in Japanese history have directed the restoration of this pondi such as Gyoki (a priest in Nara Period),Chogen (a priest in Nara Period),Chogen (a monk in Kamakura Period )and Katsumoto Katagiri (a retainer of Hideyoshi and Hideyori Toyotomi).The layers of the bank formed through the intelligence and ideas of the engineers of each period.Our museum was founded to inherit suth important engineering technologies.We will introduce you,through the exhibition of these structures removed from the site,to the history of water control,irrigation and reclamation which have been deeply related to our daily lives from ancient times .
